The Government’s Accelerated Growth Initiative (AsgiSA) has set as one of its targets the reduction of poverty and unemployment by 50% by the year 2014.

Social objectives require Government to improve the environment and create opportunities for more labour-absorbing economic activities. More broadly, it needs to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are shared in such a way that poverty comes as close to being eradicated as possible and that the severe inequalities that still plague our country are further reduced.

Government’s vision of the development path is a vigorous and inclusive economy where products and services are diverse, more value-adding to the country’s products and services, cost of production and distribution are reduced, labour is readily absorbed into sustainable employment, and new businesses proliferate and expand.

Current statistics on construction skills show huge potential for the creation sustainable jobs for skilled and unskilled people.

Our project reveals our company’s commitment to playing our role in supporting the goals of AsgiSA. We will play a key role in providing an effective and efficient delivery of affordable high quality concrete products for construction and property development projects. When taking into consideration the multi beneficial properties, together with the integral cost saving criteria, our products could become the preferred method of construction for use in affordable and low cost housing projects initiated by the government.

The benefits of cost-effective manufacturing processes, however great, pale in comparison to the savings in post-constructional phases.

The attributes our products incorporate, such as. Thermo-acoustic, high tensility, water proofing and reduced weight properties, amongst others, are all extremely costly to produce. The steep, financial burden incurred in producing these application-specific products, has up to now limited their use to “open budget operations”. Our product now brings these previously unaffordable comfort-creating, aesthetically pleasing, environmentally-friendly building applications, in full reach of the average citizen

This cost effectiveness applies to both the manufacturing and post constructional stages of our products. For example: Thermal insulation will result in post constructional electricity saving, whereas the sound absorbing qualities will lead to eliminating the use of expensive sound insulating materials (like rock wool) during the constructional phase.

Contrary to the escalating costs incurred by traditionally used raw materials, for the manufacturing of concrete products, the use of shredded scrap tyres as microfibrial “aggregate” replacement is costless. With the current building industry boom, coupled with skyrocketing cement and aggregate prices, it seems almost too good to be true.

In summary then, we not only create sustainable employment opportunities for semi-skilled as well as unskilled labour, but also minimize the negative impact on our environment, whilst increasing the availability of disposable income for other sectors of the country’s economy.
